New Website - Galway Bay Sea Foods
So Galway Bay Sea Foods website has finally gone live. And I have to tell you, Ruth and I had such a great time working with everyone at Galway Bay Sea Foods. Noel and Ron were terrific to work with and we really enjoyed developing this awesome website with them.
The site features some beautiful slideshow images on all the main pages of the site. All the photography was shot by Joe Travers of Galway. Noel Holland and Ron Pfuhlmann consulted with us on the development of content for the site and the wealth of information and images of sea food, fish smoking, and fish processing was overwhelming. I mean, there was just so much stuff there, from nearly 60 years of the Holland family being involved in the retail and wholesale sea food supply business. And I have to say also that I felt privileged to be involved with this bit of Galway history, dating back to 1950.
My favourite part of the site is the seafood recipes. There's enough here to keep me going for months. I love trying new seafood dishes.
The most challenging part was sifting through all of the information, all the history, all the stories, and all the quality management material to extract the key bits of crucial information that make the site as useful and informative as it is. Our goal was to keep everything relevant, concise, easy to access and presented in a way that was visually appealing and had good flow.
We hope you will visit the new Galway Bay Sea Foods website. The address is http://www.galwaybayseafoods.com. They specialise in wholesale and retail sea food supply, cater to all tastes and will prepare your fish any way you like. They have a modern, natural smokehouse for smoked salmon and other smoked fish, a beautiful retail shop, the first sea food cookery school in Ireland, and outstanding customer service. We shop there ourselves. If you live in Galway and you like your fish and sea food, Galway Bay Sea Foods is the place to go.

The World Wide Waste of Time
Just a quick note about websites. This is something that Ruth and I have been discussing for quite a while, and we're both in agreement on this one. There's no point having a website if you don't actively promote it. It's a complete waste of valuable resources and time. It's like opening a shop in the middle of nowhere and not having any signs to let people know you're there. It's easy to see why no one shops there, right?
These days you have to go the extra mile to attract customers. In these times most people are hanging on to money as much as possible, making it stretch that extra mile. You have to be economical, but there are some things you can't go without. What makes people decide what they will spend their money on, outside of basic necessities (assuming, of course, they have a surplus of cash after attaining said necessities)? And the answer is, of course, advertising.
Everyone nowadays is pretty much a composite product of various social beliefs and attitudes, character traits, and gestalts. Advertising impacts social consciousness, social consciousness impacts the media, it's a big yin yang thing that's going on. Companies spend fortunes shaping social consciousness around their product or brand. But this can also be done on a small scale.
One advantage that small business can quickly gain over larger ones is a sense of trust within their community. This can be enhanced with a well developed and researched internet site which enhances communication with your customers. How well you deliver your product or service is up to you, but by improving communication, using the power of internet, email, and text messaging, you can make your customer feel that they are of immediate importance, which boosts their self-esteem and can cause them to really enjoy doing business with you. This is what good business is really all about.

New Website - Part 3
The next thing was to unpublish a couple of modules. 'Recent Videos' wasn't ready, so I started with that one. I'm going to re-enable it when I have all the videos ready. Then I thought I'd get rid of the 'Featured Story' module as it was longer than the 'News Updates' and was creating an empty space below them. But when I did that, it left an unattractive empty space beside the 'News Updates' module. So I decided to remove the text, and replace the image with something more eye-catching and pertinent to the page. I'm going to try Uncle Sam and a picture saying "I Want You... To Make Profits" or something like that.
But before I do that, I need to sort out some other stuff. First, I'm going to get rid of the style changer, because I don't want people changing the styles on the site until I have them all ready. But with the style changer disabled, there's a big space next to the Featured Article module. So I'm going to move the Main Menu from the right module position to the header2 module position, and see how that looks. Ok, it's positioned well, but I don't like the way it looks. I'm going to try and modify the module parameters a little bit. I changed the menu style from Legacy Vertical to List. That's better, but it still needs a background at least, and maybe some formatting. Let's see if we can find a menu class suffix.

New Website - Part 2
The first thing I did was upload the logo. This was transferred into the /templates/rt_hyperion_j15/images/dark folder. That worked fine. See the graphic atthe top, of the winged lion? That's it.
The next step was to modify the default home page article. I changed the title to "Loewen Media - Leaders in Image Marketing", because that's what we are. And I changed the article to reflect what we do for businesses. You can check it out here.

New Website - Part 1
This is a behind-the-scenes look at how I create a custom, content-driven website. The purpose of this brief tutorial is to demonstrate how powerful and adaptable content management systems can be.
A lot of people say that CMS software yields websites that are clunky and unappealing to the eye. I hope to pretty much destroy this opinion with this tutorial. You can check the progress of the new site anytime. Just click our logo or click here to go to the Loewen Media website.
The first step was to upload the template and all associated images and sample content to the web server. I used FireFTP to transfer all the data. FireFTP is an FTP program that installs as an add-on to Firefox, the popular web browser. Once the site was uploaded, I launched the online installer and configured all of the options for site name, admin details, mysql database details, FTP details, and so on. Then I deleted the installation folder and launched into the site admin. I was ready to start customizing the site.

Image Marketing - Your Business Wants Some
Image marketing is the concept of selling a business as an idea. Your customers have ideas, below the surface. What do they think about your business? What message are you sending out? That's what image marketing is all about. Find out.
